RE: Do you camp close to home-same town?

With gas getting to $3.50 per gallon or so, it's getting harder and harder to hit the road towing the Eagle as much as we would like to. We live about 2 miles away from the Cheraw State Park in SC. It was the first state park ever built in SC. It is on a beautiful lake with nice w/e camping spots. I mentioned to the DW that perhaps we should camp there some. At least we would be camping and we wouldn't have to spend a bundle on gas. She thinks the idea is ridiculously funny, camping that close to home. She refuses. What do you guys think? Have you or would you ever camp close to home like this? We have a state park 16 miles from our home and we camp there often. Hey, it's camping and we're fishing, hiking, cooking out and meeting folks from all over. It is just great to be out there. Yeah, we do make some longer trips but we have no aversion whatsoever to camping close to home.

RE: Anyone slowing down to save on gas?

I've backed off to 55-60 and it has improved my mileage by about 2 mpg. Don't pay any attention to those who have a problem wth my speed. They're not paying for my gasoline.

RE: new to calgon

At the Walmarts in my area, Calgon is located in the area of laundry detergents. I purchase the liquid Calgon rather than the powder - use one capful, along with a capful of detergent when I treat my tank. About very 3rd tank, I also add a deodorizer just to be on the safe side. Never had an odor problem.

Service Problem

When we purchased our new travel trailer in May 07, we bought it from a dealer in Ft. Worth, TX. Bought a Jayco Jay Feather 25Z and LOVE it. We tried to purchase our trailer from the dealer in our home town but they did not have the model we wanted. Our local dealer attempted to sell us a different model which was too much trailer for our tow vehicle. Well, when we found the 25Z in Ft. Worth, 125 miles away, we went to our local dealer and asked if he could get us one, either from the manufacturer or from the Ft. Worth dealer. We were told that the price, if he got one from the manufacturer, would be around $4000.00 higher than the one in Ft. Worth. I asked him why he could not get one from the Ft. Worth dealer and I'd pay the transportation cost. He refused and continued to try to sell us the larger unit. Well,I bought the one in Ft. Worth and everything was great, until I needed warranty service for a small problem. The local dealer refused to service my unit since I did not buy it from him. I could not see towing my trailer 125 miles, dropping it off, returning home (125 miles) then going back (another 250 miles round trip) to get it. Called Jayco and they said they could not force the local dealer to service my trailer. Found a service company here in my home town, not a dealer but a reputable service senter, and Jayco agreed to allow them to do the work. I cannot imagine a dealer refusing to service a trailer simply because it was not purchased from him. He had the opportunity to sell me a trailer but would not make the effort to get me the trailer I wanted. Just wondering if this is a common problem with dealers - either buy from me or I won't service it.

RE: Is it comfy on the road inside a slide-out RV?

We have no problem getting around inside our Jayco 25Z. It is smaller but we can got to everything with no problem.

RE: Do you camp close to home-same town?

We're 16 miles from the closest state park and the fishing is really great there. Another of our favorite parks is about 85 miles from us and we're there one weekend a month through October. Basically, with gasoline prices at their current level, we're staying within a radius of about one tank of gas. That gives us several good options. It is not what we planned on for so many years but it is camping and that's what counts.

RE: Found easy way to remove black streaks

I've been using Dawn dish detergent, a mild concentration, and it gets the streaks off quickly, and, because of the dilution, is very inexpensive.

RE: Tornado Preparedness for the RV'er - 2008 Edition

When in RV parks, restrooms may be the best shelter available. If possible, the shower stalls should provide the best protection since they are like small center rooms in a house. I've found that it really doesn't matter whether you go into the men's or women's side when you are racing against time. The important thing is to get inside.

RE: Propane Grill

Appreciate all of the comments. The grille was purchased by a poster earlier today. Now I know what to do with it and it will not be cluttering up my storage room. Thanks all.....

Propane Grill

We purchased a new Jayco 25Z last May and it came with a variety of accessories which we enjoy greatly - love the trailer. However, it came with, as part of the value package, the propane grill which attaches to the exterior wall of the trailer. We use a charcoal grill - I do not like cooking with propane when it come to outdoor grilling. The propane grill has never even been out of its box. What does one do with something like this? I am supposing that it is made specifically for the trailer model that I bought. I doubt, from looking at the owner's manual, that it would be of any use as a stand alone grill. Any suggestions as to what one does with these things?

RE: jayco feather low clearance concerns

We have an 07 25Z and have had no problems at all with the clearance. We love it.
